I’m a photographer specializing in children’s photography: portraits of infants, toddlers, parents and their kids, usually in a casual home setting. Children grow fast, and my aim is to make it both easy and comfortable for parents to capture natural, poignant images of their children.
As a photographer, I’m very drawn to texture. I try to capture the feel of each home, whether through a quilt or stuffed animal monkey. Homes, like kids, change quickly. They are the backdrop of childhood and the littlest details, appearing in a photo, can evoke powerful memories. You’ll notice in my photos sweet smiles, soft light, and domestic details, too.
I first got into photography as a travel writer, exploring foreign cities like Beijing and Cairo with a camera in hand. My travel photography has been published in The New York Times, Fodor’s, The Chicago Sun-Times, and in National Geographic Traveler. You can see more of my work at www.colleenkinder.com .
I discovered children’s portraiture when my sister and dear friends began having kids . Doing casual shoots of their newborns and toddlers, while hanging out in the comfort of their homes, I saw this was the best gift I could give my friends. I realized also it was a job I’d greatly enjoy.
My pricing and policies are very simple. I shoot for about two hours, in the location of your choice (ideally, right at home) and within a week, I’ll send you an e-album with the 100 best photos, well-polished and nicely sequenced. I use a website (viewbook.com) that enables you to download the photos directly, either individual photos or the entire album. I’ll also keep the e-album posted for a month, so you can share the link with friends right away. They’re your photos, though—to save, to duplicate, to frame!
The entire package is $450. That includes everything: shooting, editing, the image files themselves. If you’re interested in a longer photo session, we can talk over a price. My cancellation fee is $50. Please drop me a note if you have any questions.
